Well, well, if it isn't everyone's dream to come across an old, abandoned school and transform it into a sexy loft. As it happened, Muriel, the lucky owner of the below pictured Paris loft, did just that! Redoing everything from A to Z, she pulled out the old parquet, had it recut, sanded and made to fit back to absolute perfection around her new open plan. The bookshelf in her study is made to measure and as backboard boasts the Sitting Comfortably pattern from the wallpaper gurus at Mini Moderns.
And I love the integration of the classy 60's Florence Knoll sofa. I'm not normally the biggest fan of 60's furniture, but the beige sofa is just so well married into the bright, white walls and soft pastels of the renovated apartment that it absolutely deserved a mention. Another cute little touch appears in the kitchen. Muriel had one tile left over after completing the kitchen floor and so used the extra to integrate it into the recycled wood kitchen bench, as a working surface. Clever cookie!
The space is really and simply exquisite. When one knows how difficult it is to get any light into Paris apartments, this abode is a dream. Muriel's idea of modular spaces in an open plan sees unique new configurations being formed based on need and time of day, and sees optimised use of light-lines so that every nook gets a share of lovely sunlight. The dedication to white as the key tone is also a nod to the aim of capturing the maximum amount of light... and the accented colour additions, such as the red chair, are just simply great, seductive hints to keep us wanting more and waltzing from one space into the next.
