Crafted with love in Johannesburg

I thought to myself "What can I post to get this wintery, chilly Monday off the ground and the creative antennas to take their scarves off?". Well, lo and behold, my unforgiving search for the kind of stuff that we just love here at the Nest saw me come across these gems by South African design group Dokter and Misses. I just love the name!!

Based in Johannesburg, the group offers quite funky and edgy pieces that are quite openly honest to their being inspired by the Bauhaus. The design is simple, it's quirky, and it's fun. Each piece is unique in the way it chisels out its presence in a room. Moreover though, the pieces seem to also have a harmonic way of working with each-other... lamps grasping on to table-ends, or appearing to barely hang off the wall... nuts, bolts and strings holding designs together through what seems to be haphazard solutions to structure, although this is very much the intention... and simple yet confident furniture seeming to whistle its tune away as it seductively impresses the viewer...
