Artist Arjan Janssen seems to have a special relationship with the canvas. With a soft gentle stroke and soft accents of colour he produces intricate and delicate studies of line, tone and space. The work has an air of fragility that finds me holding my breath as I peer closer. I feel the need to speak softly so that I'm in sync with the finesse of the silent notes that whisper from the canvas. Despite the appearance of simplicity in execution, there is a sophistication and an understanding of space and composition to the finished pieces that is in perfect equilibrium with the viewer.
