Firstly, you may have noticed some major changes to the blog, and I'm sorry for the inconvenience but the ultimate goal is to create a better experience and more valuable content on the topic we all love the most, design! Thank you for your continued support. Nest of Pearls is now in its sixth month and looking to grow substantially in 2013, so I'm testing different layouts to see what is the best way to get the best stories, support information and links to the readers. If I haven't said it before, here it is, please please please let me know your thoughts. The blog should be user-friendly for all and serve a purpose not just look pretty, so if you have tips and suggestions for me feel free to comment.

On that note, I present to you today's inspiration, coming all the way from the states. Owned by Dana TanamachiTanamachi Studio is, in her own words, a boutique graphic design studio specialising in hand-lettering & custom typography for editorial, lifestyle, food, and fashion brands. Dana is simply the master of chalk. Commissioned by huge clients such as Google, Yahoo, Nike, Tommy Hilfiger and TIME magazine, to name but a few, it is incredibly inspiring to see the impact that this young and talented designer has had on the world of typography.

Her work is art. It is grandiose, it is impact-full it is original and it carries the strong human element of having been created laboriously by hand. For me, it is the latter, more so than anything else, that embodies emotion in her work. It plays on elements such as scale and contrast to grab your imagination and transport you to another ideological realm. In a world where we are so used to seeing images, photos, typefaces, everything and anything, created by computer programs, it is so refreshing to come across Tanamachi's work which carries such softness and humility and yet has no less of an impact. There is such an authenticity that no computer program can dish up.
