Spectacular Styling in Seville's D-Espacio Estudio

D-Espacio Estudio, Espacio Blanco - Nest of Pearls

Ok, so this post has taken me days to put together! And the reason being, is that I came across this spectacular space on a Spanish design site, which of course I understood very little to none of. My French did not come in handy at all here. I then searched for links and clues within that original article, which finally led me to the D-Espacio Estudio website.

D-Espacio Estudio, Espacio Blanco - Nest of Pearls

Founded by Jesús Regueira, D-Espacio Estudio offers the creative community in Seville two large studios, one 'white' one 'black'. The studios are perfect for filming, styling and photo shoots, running events, and holding presentations. The two interiors are styled to perfection, down to the subtle fold in the rug, the scratch in the parquet, and, I dare say, the creak in the stair. The interior is comprised of very carefully selected classics of the twentieth century, and offers a wide variety of vintage props. The photos in this post come from the D-Espacio Estudio website, and are styled by D-Espacio Estudio's dedicated team, comprising of a creative director and talented designers.

Of the two studios, the one I'm sharing with you here is the Espacio Blanco (white space). The 'black' space will have to wait for another day's blog post. There are just so many amazing photos of both spaces available on the D-Espacio Estudio website, that culling back and choosing was beyond the capabilities of my self-control.

So, here we are, in Espacio Blanco. What a space! What richness, what a depth of colour, texture, ruggedness and candid character. Every corner, surface and nook is so lovingly designed, and the detail in styling is just breathtaking. I think not much more needs to be said, because the photos themselves will transport you to another world.

Vintage funk Malmo interior swims in rich detail

Apartment interior Malmo, as seen in Elle Interior Sweden (via Nest of Pearls)

WOW! Man, if I could ever have the chance to again redesign an apartment, this is what I will do. What a space! What an amazing collection of ideas all under the same roof. This is not simply interior design, this is art in its freshest form. These rooms are used as canvases where the articles within constitute layer upon layer of richness that give this Malmo apartment a very unique and remarkably funky feeling.

Where does one start? I love the vastness of the spaces. I love the control in filling the large white rooms just enough but not over-filling them. I respect this highly because this is one of my biggest problems. As much as I love beginning with a fresh white space, I too often fill it beyond visual capacity. Control is certainly an art.

Just look at the class with which the soft dress hangs on the living room wall, right at home amongst the more traditional picture frames... and the books casually but sassily affirming their presence as they sit arranged on the ground, not need for a shelf. Notice also the bed-side table, it is made of clean white shoes boxes, serving surface and storage purposes all at once. With the exception of the dining room, all rooms are immaculately painted in white. The dining room itself was painted green to embody the feeling of an old English Library and exude a genuine feeling of rich vintage.

Gubi Denmark, an absolute, heavenly escape

Gubi Denmark (via Nest of Pearls, Australian Design Blog)

Every now and then I fall upon a great design website that I simply want to completely devour and so I have trouble cutting back on the number of great images that I want to share. This is definitely the case with the exquisite furniture of the Gubi design group in Denmark.

Gubi's eclectic approach blurs the lines between delicious vintage and an impeccable modern approach, and the photography of the pieces projects them into a dreamy magic world where colour, contrast and light come into place as the perfect supporting actors.

In the words of Gubi, which I find so spot on, their collection boasts 'an extensive assortment of extremely aesthetic, thought-provoking designs characterised by simple, arresting shapes, original materials and innovative techniques which defy time and space'. It is such an incredible array of deliciousness that sees me rubbing my fingers softly together as I imagine the touch of the tantalising fabrics. The styling is also executed to mere perfection. I'm imagining the likes of beautiful actresses from the 50's lounging carelessly on these delicate pieces.

Swedish interior conversion

This sassy conversion of an old shop into a swanky house is situated in Sweden's Gotland, and I just love the modern approach to the redesign of the interior. Firstly the floor, I love the touch of wood and the soft, warm grey it brings into the space. I particularly like how each stain & mark has been kept & magnified on the wood floor panels, adding a unique character to each corner of the surface.

The rugged textures are also oh-so lusciously seductive. Every room carries its own subtle nod to accents of vintage... from the warm, natural sanded shades of the kitchen cupboards and the luscious, uneven pink textures of the doors inviting us onto the living space, to the delectable traditional sofa throw-overs playing on the contrast of the unrefined metal finish of the lamp hanging just above. There is a real juxtaposition of materials and colours that enhances our appreciation of the space.

Rugged and sexy converted London warehouse

This converted London warehouse oozes groove and sexiness, and I've decided that as soon as I come across a deserted, affordable warehouse I'm embarking on a project just like this and sprucing it up to just how I like it. What a space?! What a concoction of proportion, colour, texture, character and play on height!

Every touch, every accent of design seems to have been achieved in such a laid back and relaxed fashion... yet everything works so well and must have been rigorously thought out. How can one not appreciate the spaces created... the amazing long dining room table with the ensemble of mis-matching and fun chairs, the use of mirrors, both small and extra big, all adding to the play and perception of size, space, depth and proportion.

The backbone of the rhythm and life of the space are the walls. A sense of succulent ruggedness has been achieved through both the haphazard rendering of the high brick walls, and the recycled wood panel surfaces on which the eye can't help but dance over the depth and range of warm wood colours. After having lapped it all up thirstily I think my heart is most weak at the simple and girly act of using soft, pretty gowns as a curtain in the bedroom, and the shy little bathroom mirror with its humble sink.
