Wonderland in the sky, by Steven Harris Architects

Nest of Pearls - Tribeca apartment by Stephen Harris Architects

I absolutely love New York. To date, I've only had the pleasure of visiting this amazing city as a tourist, but I just know that one day I'll need to live there, even if it's for a short period of time. Maybe the calling will come one day when I'm a full-time design blogger and I'll be required to live in New York to rub shoulders and interview local design talent... yes, I'm sure that that's what it'll have to be...

So I guess, until then, I'm left to dream and plan... and what better way to dream about the perfect NY abode than this whizz-bang snazzy penthouse!! What a space, what a view, what grandeur!! Designed by the award-winning Steven Harris Architects, this incredible jewel of an apartment hangs in the heights of the 27 and 28th floor of a converted 1930's office building NY's TriBeCa.

The 743 square-metre home is rich with breathtaking design solutions, an abundant allowance made that much more attainable by the clients' very accommodating and generous budget. One of my favourite aspects are the simple and elegant floating stairs. Made out of stainless steel plates, each step is then wrapped in leather. What a unique and unlikely mix of material!! I can only imagine how comfortable it must be to sink one's foot in these immaculate stairs.

Where I think this apartment design really tugs at my heart-strings, though, is the large windows, impeccable views, and rich light streaming in at every possible opportunity. It is an absolutely perfect wonderland for lovers of rich, plush, boundary-less comfort, quietly looking down on the mesmerising lights of one one of the most magnificent cities of the world.

Manhattan at your fingertips

Ok, so I know the other day I said that I was going to embark on a deserted warehouse loft conversion, but I've changed my mind, yes, yes I have. I'm going to put my piggy-bank coins aside and save for a swanky little place in Manhattan, yes you read right, Manhattan, and embark on a complete reinvention of the interior! Motivated by the below much? Maybe, just maybe...

WOW! Look at that view, those windows, the light streaming in, and the buzz of one of the world's most amazing & vibrant melting-pot cities only one breath away from drowning your inner aesthetic hunger. Maybe it's my recent, unforgettable trip to NYC that has carved out a soft spot for NY pads in an obsessed little corner of my heart, or maybe it's just this apartment that wins viewers over with its charm.

Situated in Manhattan's Gramercy Park this delicious lolly of a gem, of a spark, of a cookie, has been completely redone and spruced up from, what was, an old townhouse construction. The dream was brought to life by the talented team at Fractal Construction, an architectural firm based in NYC's East Village.

I invite you to lose yourselves in the magic of this project. If you look closely you might just come upon lighting design by Ingo Maurer, art by sculptor Emilio Garcia, and signature pieces by the extraordinary  Mies van der Rohe.

Vintage 'sauvage' in Brooklyn

Hilary Robertson is an interior stylist, so it's no wonder her Brooklyn apartment is adorned with beautifully trendy pastels, soft greys, and random objects that come to life in a mixture of softness and sophistication married with hints of savage ruggedness.

Robertson, originally from Britain, migrated to NYC and in search of the perfect interior for her abode has spent, and probably still spends, every weekend in vintage, second-hand stores. Every piece that comes to life in the below photos is because she's given it a second chance, a breath of life and a design character that is unique only to her Brooklyn pad.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find a link to Robertson's design page, but will definitely update this post when I do.
