The eclectic revamp of the recently renamed Mercat restaurant in Amsterdam leaves my mouth watering and wanting to pop on to the first TGV and go visit. The design is heavily inspired by the soul of lively Catalonian food halls, meaning it openly boasts fresh produce for visitors to see. Needless to say, it takes this basic concept and enriches it in a grand and very stylised fashion. The design group responsible for this inspiration is Concrete in Amsterdam.
The finishing touches are endearingly eclectic, ranging from mismatching yet complimenting vintage chairs, to homey wooden tables and inviting chesterfield sofas. My favourite aspect of this revamp is the concrete wall setting against the liveliness of the colours, textures, surfaces and produce within the space. Even without the people present in the below pics the space seems to be ready for a fiesta.
